Song, St Andrew, Syria and Saltires

We had a wonderful evening on the 30th November, full of songs, stories and great food. Over 150 people came, a good mix of incomers and locals, all coming together to celebrate kindness and community. We’re really grateful to Bemis and the St Andrews Fair Saturday for enabling us to put the event on.

Hal Asmar Ellon
I’ll hold onto you

Our new choir the “Moving Stories Community Choir” debuted with several songs, including a specially composed one “Begin with a grin” and a traditional Syrian song “Hal Asmar Ellon”.  It was particularly pleasing that the Syrians in the audience joined in with the singing.

We also had some fantastic storytelling from Renita Boyle and some great music from a variety of musicians.

The food was a wonderful selection from all kinds of cuisine.  Predictably the British people were bowled over by the Syrian food but the Syrians were in turn particularly impressed with the Cranachan.

It was a really lovely event and we’ve had some great messages since.

It was a such a special evening. I think the images of all the Syrian’s singing along and young Sidra joining in will stay with me for many years to come. What a special community we have. Thanks to you and Moxie for all your amazing work.”

Last night was so lovely. It epitomised MOOL. Such a massive outpouring of love!
